Thought #1: at the end of the day, we all go “home”.
Sometimes when I feel isolated or out of my depth in a space in a room, I like to imagine what each person would look like surrounded by “their people”.
I like to think, “you should see me with my people”. Because that person is a version of me I wish everyone could see.
Thought #2: politicians are people??
I have been following the US Midterms, and found it interesting to compare the approaches of more leftist candidates versus centrist candidates campaigning with the Democratic party. I found the “concessions” or “compromises” (who knows if they are genuine or just a political show) that centrists made were very interesting. For example, centrist Democrat James Talerico speaking about how he loved Ken Paxton and that he was his brother in Christ despite calling Paxton one of the most corrupt politicians. I wonder if this really struck a chord with republican Texans, and wether the reference to love through faith came across as a cross-bench appeal of rationality.
It is a wild thought experiment, too, to imagine how some of these politicians (on both sides of the bench) can churn out personal attacks on other candidates and yet go home and be protective and loving to their families. Pouring vitriol over someone’s child or parent is a terrible way to make an ally or change someone’s mind.
